Go on a trip to Tibet...

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 19 June 2007 06:12 (A review of Cho Oyu 8201m: Field Recordings from Tibet)

This is a different kind of CD from Geir Jenssen (biosphere). No real music, just the sounds recorded around him as he trekked up a mountain in Tibet, mixed into a collection of tracks.

This is similar to the albums by Aaron Ximm (Quiet American) and you can just lose yourself as you hear trucks rattle past, radio snippets faded in and out his fellow climbers rest on oxygen.

The turning point in comics for me...

Posted : 17 years, 9 months ago on 4 February 2007 01:35 (A review of The Absolute Sandman, Vol. 1)

Some say Watchmen but for me it was Gaiman's Sandman that really renewed my interest in the form.

Excellent storytelling and art work to boot. This edition is well worth the extra money and is something you can come back to time and time again..

Wonderful electronic music...

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 27 December 2006 12:34 (A review of Outfolding)

This is a great, timeless, album that you can enjoy loud in the car or just in the background. I'd recommend Saul Stokes to anyone with an interest in electronic music.

New Eluvium CD...

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 7 December 2006 12:48 (A review of When I Live By the Garden & The Sea)

This new release is more of an EP but it's well worth getting a copy. The tracks are well-formed and drift through together.

No beats to speak of, just pleasant warm tones conjuring a sense of place. Most welcome on these cold Ohio days in December.

Interesting and revealing show...

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 2 December 2006 12:16 (A review of Dinner for Five (2001-2005))

Dinner for Five (shown on IFC) is a great show if you're interested in the real going on's in Hollywood.

The premise is simple. John Favreau invites four different people (writers, directors actors etc.) for dinner at a restaurant and films them while the chat about "the biz". This does not come across as a chat show , more that you are eavesdropping on real table conversation - eye-opening and very entertaining.
